About Me

My name is Mandalyn Thomas

My name is Mandalyn, and I am an elementary school teacher with experience teaching drama classes during the summer. My bachelor's degree is in Theatre Arts, which allowed me the opportunity to learn all departments before diving into one particular discipline. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my love of acting and writing which led me to the path of teaching and now Beachside Drama! My training includes Rowan University in NJ, as well as with UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade) in NYC as well as Baron Brown Studies in Los Angeles. I have won awards for my screenplay Death in the Family, and had the opportunity to work on both independent films as well as major motion pictures as a Producer, Assistant Director, and Production Coordinator.

I have seen kids in my classes thrive when they have the opportunity to act in scenes, sketch different costume pieces, or create the world the character lives in!

I am ecstatic to teach your child in the areas they are interested in!

Course Descriptions

1

Classroom Expectations

All classes will be held in a professional manner that not only teaches children how to create characters, costumes, and set designs; but teamwork, respect for others, and an inclusive environment for everyone to feel welcomed!

Each class will allow for ongoing hands-on projects to keep your child engaged and proud of the work they accomplish.

My goal is to make sure kids feel the same enthusiasm and belonging that I felt when I stepped into my first drama class.

2

Acting

Classes are held two days a week, with an optional time to rehearse independently. â€‹

All actors will have time to work on age appropriate scenes, monologues, along with playing improvisational games.

This will not only help your thespian become a better actor, this will help with their reading skills, comprehension, figurative language, as well as their confidence! â€‹

Students will have the opportunity to perform in front of parents and friends as well as having the opportunity to  develop a reel. The reel  will help them for when they begin to submit for auditions.

3

 Set & Costume Design

Classes will be held once a week, with the option to come in and work independently a second day.

Each designer will analyze different scenes and monologues to help them sketch and then put together models.

Students will learn about color theory to help create engaging pieces. They will also learn how to communicate and work on team-building skills.

Every designer will walk away with a portfolio of their creations from their time at Beachside Drama.
